Vancouver: The Kindness of Strangers

I was leaving the Home Depot in the middle of a crazy rain storm and found that my van wouldn’t start.\n\nI kept cranking and cranking until I eventually killed the battery. After a few minutes, I heard a tap on my window and a man introduced himself as the manager of Oil Can Henry’s. He then, while standing in the rain and soaking wet, asked me to pop my hood. After a few minutes of looking around under my hood, he then asked me to start my van. After one turn of my key, my van started with no problems. He then walked back to my window and told me that he tested my battery and also found a vacuum hose that was disconnected, causing my van to idle at a slower speed.\n\nI’ve had this problem with my van’s idle for a long time but everyone I’ve had look at it couldn’t find the problem. Nathan then told me that my battery was a little old and that it had tested poorly. By this time Nathan was so wet from the rain and I couldn’t be more in shock by the service I was getting from this man.\n\nI told Nathan I would meet him at the Oil Can Henry’s store. After following Nathan back to the store (about 100 yards), I was able to get my battery replaced.\n\nI am still in shock by the customer service he gave me. Nathan never once had to walk through the parking lot in the pouring rain to help me, but he did and for that I am still in utter shock and grateful. I’m 66-years old and never in my entire life have I ever had someone go out of their way to help me like Nathan did. I can’t say enough about this gentleman, nor will I ever forget his kindness towards strangers. People like Nathan make all the difference in the world.\n~ Gregory B.

Yucaipa: A New Man in My Life

I was so impressed with the service that I had to write you guys. I know people are more likely to spend the time to complain than to compliment.\n\nI have never been to Oil Can Henry’s before. I needed an oil change but with my elderly mom with Parkinsons and my 15-month old daughter, I didn’t want to sit at the dealership for hours. I also didn’t want my daughter to have to run around a dirty repair shop (where the waiting room consists of a gross coffee pot and the extra row seating pulled out of a van for guest seats). I looked up “oil change” in my area and your name popped up. I recalled that the buildings always looked cute and clean when I drive by, so I figured it would be a good place to try.\n\nI pulled up to a very pleasant man who told me I got to stay in the car with the kids and mom, and then handed us a paper and asked if we needed anything else to be comfy while we waited just a few minutes for the car ahead of us to be done. They offered services but didn’t pressure me to buy or act like my car was in desperate need of repair.\n\nThe guys worked together like a NASCAR pit crew. Everyone was sooo friendly…..and I mean they seemed down right happy to be working. They joked around with us. My mom, who hasn’t driven in years, said she wishes she could buy a car so she could get oil changes there. My 14-year old son said, “Whoa….that was impressive service! I was dreading going with you to the car shop, but that was actually FUN!”\n\nLater that night, I told my husband I had a new man in my life and his name was Henry. LOL. My husband is ready to take the other two cars there. Yeah….its a few bucks more than other places, but the extra few bucks is gladly spent to avoid the frustration. The only thing better would be a donut and a pedicure while my car gets done. So impressed.\n\n~ Anne L.

More Frequent Oil Changes Needed, GM Tells 778,956 Car Owners

General Motors is notifying owners of almost 779,000 vehicles that their vehicles may need oil changes more frequently than their onboard oil monitoring systems are telling them.

The company is asking owners of 2010-12 Chevrolet Equinox, GMC Terrain and Buick Lacrosse and Regal models with 2.4-liter LAF and LEA four-cylinder engines to take those vehicles back to the dealerships to have the onboard oil monitoring system reprogrammed.

The service will be completed at no charge to the vehicle owner through February 28, 2015.

GM issued the warning after noting high warranty claims on several models with four cylinder engines. Dealerships will recalibrate the oil-life monitor to use shorter oil change intervals, according to Automotive News.

The recommended oil change interval provided by the monitor depends on how the vehicle is driven and the environment in which it is driven.

When it’s time for an oil change or other preventive maintenance, don’t hassle with appointments and drop-offs at the dealership. Trust your vehicle to the trained technicians at Oil Can Henry’s; our quick, convenient and thorough service meets warranty requirements.

Learn more about oil change interval recommendations and take a quick quiz to find out if you’re “Normal” or “Severe” .
